Claer Barrett (FT Money Clinic podcast) and Patrick Mills (Pages of Hackney bookshop) return to Flixwatcher remotely to review Claer’s choice Enola Holmes. Enola Holmes is a 2020 young adult mystery adventure film, based on the novels of the same name, about the teenage sister of the famous detective Sherlock Holmes. Enola Holmes, delightfully played by Millie Bobby Brown, is left literally alone when her mother Eudoria Holmes (Helena Bonham Carter) mysteriously disappears on the day of her sixteenth birthday. Her brothers, Sherlock (Henry Cavill) and Mycroft (Sam Claflin) arrive and decide to send Enola to finishing school, determined to discover what has happened to her mother, she escapes dressed as a boy and heads to London. Enola Holmes is perfect family home viewing, not especially taxing on the brain and just about justifies its two hours runtime. Originally planned for a full cinema release but due to the pandemic it instead went to Netflix and was it’s biggest first day opening Netflix title of 2020 - expect sequels. [supsystic-tables id=221] Enola Holmes scores generously across most of the Flixwatcher categories, let down a little by low repeat viewing (saving it for the sequels!) and scores a respectable 3.88 overall.
